Title: Growth of cotangent homology of commutative algebras
Abstract: This talk is going to be about the cotangent complex of a map of commutative algebras. The focus is on algebras that are essentially of finite type over a field of characteristic zero, and a conjecture of Herzog about the homology of the cotangent complex. My goal is to explain where this conjecture is coming from, how is it connected with some other long-standing questions in commutative algebra and rational homotopy theory, and and what we know about it at the moment. My talk is based on ongoing joint work with Greg Stevenson and Benjamin Briggs.
